Katy Perry Is the Latest Celeb to Try the Spring Bob Trend

The bob brigade is in strong formation these days, and their ranks are only growing. Just last night, Kim Kardashian joined the team with a pink microbob—the very same evening that Katy Perry premiered her own version of the short, sassy style. And no, I don’t think they planned it—the bob is simply the cut of the moment.

On April 29, Perry took to social media to share that she’d “chopped off all her hair,” by which we mean found a really good wig. In true do-it-for-the-fans fashion, she also gave her followers some behind-the-scenes content exhibiting how the style came to be. In a video posted to the “Hot N Cold” singer’s Instagram profile, celebrity hairstylist Jesus Guerrero trims up the style, which hits right below her chin.

During her American Idol broadcast, Perry shared that the haircut is in fact a wig (but good luck to you if you try to google “Katy Perry wig American Idol,” if you know what I’m saying). “Big shoutout to all my KatyKat fans who think I got a haircut. They’re traitors,” she said during Season 7 Episode 15 after listening to a contestant sing Olivia Rodrigo’s “Traitor.” “This is a wig.”

While fans weren’t necessarily mean about the chop in Perry’s comments section, many were relieved the look isn’t permanent. In another Instagram post, the mother of one shared a new message to her fans, who she now dubbed “KatyRats.”

“You guys had a lot of strong feelings about my haircut,” she says while sipping on a can of coke. “Let’s see that energy for KP6, ’cause this is just a wig.”

Wig or not, the hair is plenty fun. Dyed Perry’s signature dark shade (did you know she’s naturally blonde?), Guerrero styled it with a deep side part and a bit of edgy wave throughout. Working with makeup artist Michael Anthony, the singer completed the look with satin nude pink lipstick and extremely fluttery lashes. Gone is her recent chrome manicure, replaced with a medium-length, square-shaped milky pink style.
