When Kylie Jenner debuted pastel-pink hair reminiscent of her Tumblr days, the Internet went into a frenzy. Especially so because Kylie had been relatively quiet on social media, popping in only every now and then to share a new Kylie Cosmetics launch or photos of her family. But recently, Jenner has proved she is indeed back to her edgy, cool-girl self. From her pastel hair to a leather launch from her clothing brand, and now, her edgy chrome manicure.
On May 15, Kylie’s sister Kendall Jenner launched a new peaches and cream smoothie with Erewhon/ Kylie, among the duo’s other friends, reviewed the new smoothie in her story. Of course, we had to take a closer look at Kylie’s nails, which were painted with a grey, pearlescent chrome manicure. We’d say her cool manicure is fit for thousands of Tumblr re-blogs, and one we plan to copy on our next visit to the salon.
Jenner opted for a long almond-shaped manicure with a grey base and a pearly white chrome finish. The nails reflected like smoky mirrors in the video she posted to Instagram. She kept the rest of her beauty simple, letting her manicure shine. She’s also wearing a matching set from her clothing brand, Khy, in a pink colorway that recently dropped.
As opposed to bestie Hailey Bieber’s pearly glazed nails, Kylie tends to lean on the grungier side. And, when it comes to her manicures, she loves a good chrome finish. Earlier in the year she debuted silver-chrome nails for the release of Sprinter, her vodka soda brand. Then, she opted for cherry-chrome nails that matched her equally as fiery red hair. And more recently, she took inspiration from sea glass to create her vacation-ready rainbow-chrome manicure. What can we say, the girl clearly loves chrome polish.
Chrome is shaping up to be the go-to, low-maintenance manicure that is equal parts edgy and sophisticated. To get the look at home, all you’ll need is a shiny topcoat, like Olive & June’s Mermaid Effect Top Coat ($9) or Essie’s Special Effects Polish in Cosmic Chrome ($13) that you can apply over your favorite colored polish. Or, you can opt for a press-on with the same effect, like this iridescent almond pair from Olive & June.
