Jessica Biel Is in Her Bob Era

Before last year, I considered bob haircuts and bang haircuts to have the same vibe. Both are big changes, usually synonymous with an emotional shift in someone’s life, and they can completely alter the aesthetic of a person’s glam. Now, my tune has changed, as literally everyone is getting a bob for the summer. And I’m convinced stylists or whoever runs the bob haircut committee hired a crisis PR team, because every stylish celeb is co-signing the haircut, from Kourtney Kardashian to Hailey Bieber. The most recent A-lister to join the bob brigade is Jessica Biel, who revealed the big chop on her social media over the weekend.

Fresh off her Met Gala appearance (Biel looked like a flower rising from the garden and coming to life on the Met steps) the actor opted for a big hair change. On May 19, she posted the transformation to her TikTok with the caption “Chop Chop,” and a chop it was. Biel shedded her loose bronde waves for a pin-straight bob.

Biel’s bob sat right at chin length and appeared to be more blonde than her previous color. Although she was wearing a hat in the video, so it’s tough to tell her true shade. However, we can see that her bob has no layers and is instead one blunt length. In the video, it was styled to flip inwards with a slight wave for a touch of volume.

The age-old question persists: Why is everyone cutting bobs now? Hairstylist Jenda Alcorn gave her insight into why the haircut is so popular right now, and previously told Byrdie that because so many of her clients experienced hair loss during the pandemic, the bob has been a stylish solution. “I would say 90% of my clientele has experienced some degree of shedding post Covid infection,” she said. “This bob trend feels very inspired by women wanting their hair to feel full and healthy again. Starting fresh feels like the all-around theme.”

Although there are plenty of reasons Biel could have opted for the chop, there’s something fun about starting fresh with a new haircut for summer.
