Selena Gomez Just Brought Back a Very 2010s Hair Trend

The sock bun was the hairstyle of the 2010s. The oversized bun paired perfectly with corporate clubwear, and was one of the first viral beauty hacks. If you thought it was too soon for the 2010s to make a comeback, think again, as Selena Gomez is making the case for bringing the hairstyle back.

On May 29, Gomez was spotted in New York filming her Hulu show, Only Murders In The Building, fresh off of her impressive Cannes Film Festival win. At the film festival this year, she took home the Best Actress award for her role in Emilia Pérez. While back in the States, Gomez got back to business on set and relaxed between shots in a look that would’ve received a million re-blogs on Tumblr. She styled a sock bun, textured dress, and Ugg slippers.

I don’t think it gets anymore 2010s than that. Plus, her sock bun is nearly perfect. From the side photos you can see the bun’s iconic twist that looks so voluminous. Her hair is perfectly smoothed back into the style, and two little strands of hair frame her face. Our middle school selves are definitely jealous.

Contrasted to the ballerina bun, the sock style has a bit more of an easygoing feel which is present in the big bouncy bun rather than the tight knot of the ballerina style. With summer coming up, its a no-brainer style to throw up in a pinch, and thankfully, there’s no “right way” to wear it—it can be as messy or slicked to perfection as you want it to be.

The rest of her look was a mix of costuming and off-duty staples. She styled a short-sleeved maxi dress that was a nearly neon shade of hot pink and had furry details throughout. Gomez accessorized with little black sunglasses, threw on a pair of tan Ugg slippers, grabbed her laptop, and called it a day.
