Remember when anytime you’d go to the salon you’d leave with a single nail decorated with a flower? Dainty floral nail designs were everywhere in the 2000s, and it was the It Girl manicure before the glazed donut nails of today. And, like many other trends from the era, they’re making a comeback. First, the look was co-signed by Hailey Bieber, and now Ariana Grande is putting her spin on the manicure.
On June 6, Grande appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to perform “The Boy Is Mine” from her new album, and chat all about her upcoming film, Wicked. While promoting the film, Grande has been in her method dressing era, wearing pink dresses and even transforming into giant flowers inspired by her character, Glinda The Good Witch. For the show, Grande stuck to her method dressing, but this time in a much more subtle way—she used her manicure to bring Glinda to life.
Grande wore her nails in her signature long almond shape. Each nail was painted with a milky, translucent base, and was dotted with three miniature white flowers with pink centers. On her thumbs, however, she opted for a classic French style.
Grande balanced the moodiness of her Eternal Sunshine album and the bright pink hues of her Wicked character effortlessly. Her nails were a nice nod to her character, while also being the perfect summer nail inspo. They also matched the buttons on her dress which we shaped like 3D white roses. She styled her black skater dress with tights and white pumps.
No matter what she’s wearing, Grande tends to stick to her go-to glam. She wore big fluffy black lashes that gave a cat-eye effect paired with lots of highlighter and a touch of blush to create a glowy complexion, courtesy of her makeup artist Michael Anthony. Parting her hair in the center, the 30-year-old tied her hair into a half-up style with a pretty knot in the back. The rest of her curled blonde hair rested on her back.
While we mostly associate florals with spring, Grande’s manicure proves that it’s a perfect choice for the summer months, too. Plus, in a sea of chrome nails and French manicures, they feel so cute and refreshing. Even though dainty florals never really went out of style, they’re popping up more these days than ever. Hailey Bieber just wore a very similar manicure while on her trip to Japan, including tiny gemstones. So, now you know: Floral nails for summer might actually be groundbreaking.
