Gigi Hadid’s “Slashed” Nails Are an Unexpected Summer Mani

Thoughtful little details on the red carpet can have a big impact, especially when it comes to method dressing. A tiny tennis ball accent on Zendaya’s Challengers-inspired pump or a reference to a vintage Barbie during Margot Robbie’s summer of pink can send social media into a frenzy. Another example is Gigi Hadid’s Wolverine-clawed nails, which added the final touch to her look for a night out with Blake Lively.

By now, you’ve seen the photos of Gigi Hadid and Blake Lively holding hands at the Deadpool & Wolverine movie premiere in New York City. The duo brought a fashionable flair to Ryan Reynold’s red carpet with Hadid in a yellow Miu Miu set and Lively in a Versace superhero catsuit. One of our favorite parts of Hadid’s Wolverine cosplay was her matching manicure, and lucky for us, her manicurist Mei Kawajiri posted the nails front and center to her Instagram.

“Gigi knows what to get for nails,” she said in the caption, “it’s SLASHED.” The manicurist crafted short, almond-shaped nails for the supermodel, adding a base coat of a reddish-brown polish color. A few select nails had a trio of Wolverine-esque yellow cat scratches, as though he slashed right through her nail. (If you aren’t familiar, the superhero has extra-long claws). The manicure was finished with a glossy top coat.

For the night, Hadid crafted her hair into a flippy-bob with a dramatic curled swoop, courtesy of hairstylist Jennifer Yepez. Her makeup was bronzy and glowy, with warm shade sculpting her cheeks and a similar coordinating hue on her eyelids. A statement black cat-eye and lip gloss added a glamorous feel. Her glam was crafted by makeup artist Kristofer Buckle.

Lively also coordinated her manicure with her outfit, with hand-painted rose nails to pair with her red afterparty dress. As such, we’ve entered a new arena for method dressing—the look isn’t complete with a manicure to match.
