Lady Gaga Debuted Country Copper Hair for Her Collab With Bruno Mars

You can get an idea of what “Jolene” from Dolly Parton’s hit song looks like based on the lyrics (“Your beauty is beyond compare, with flaming locks of auburn hair”), but I think Lady Gaga’s latest big hair transformation is the perfect depiction of the song’s subject. Gaga’s newest unexpected change is a full head of auburn hair that she debuted along with a new single featuring Bruno Mars.

For context, On August 13, Lady Gaga surprised fans with a post of her playing the piano with jet-black straight hair and wearing a Bruno Mars shirt that she so coyly flashed to the camera. Flash forward to today, August 15, and she confirmed the new single “Die With a Smile” and accompanying music video with a retro, country-glam cover photo featuring new, Jolene-esque copper hair.

“WHILE YOU WAIT TILL LG7…’DIE WITH A SMILE’ a duet with @brunomars” she wrote in the caption, simultaneously confirming the impending arrival of her next album. In the photo, the singer’s tower of curly strawberry blonde hair was front and center. Her new ‘do featured side-swooped bangs resting just above her eyebrows, with the rest of her curly hair styled in a polished shag cut that cascaded just past her collarbone.

Gaga collaborated with makeup artist Alexandra French on the Twiggy-esque glam that leaned further into the retro-mod feel of the cover shoot. Of course, the 38-year-old kept her signature bleached eyebrows, infusing some classic Gaga edginess. French crafted a sleek cat eye with fluttery lashes that featured little dots on the ends. She topped the look off with a warm nude lip and orange blush.

In the photo, Gaga is wearing a cornflower blue and red dress that puts a Western spin on a mod silhouette, and features floral embroidery and a large poufy red bow wrapped around her neck. Mars wore a similar look in a cowboy suit and hat. The comments were, as you’d guessed, flooded with excitement.
