I Tried Neutrogena’s New Collagen Bank Moisturizer

Our writer was given a complimentary sample of Neutrogena’s Collagen Bank Moisturizer to put to the test. Keep reading for our full product review.

Here’s a skincare fact everyone should know: Starting in our 20s, we lose 1% of collagen each year. Collagen is one of the building blocks of our skin, playing a critical role in its strength and elasticity. While we can’t stop the loss of collagen as we age, we can take topical measures to defend and support what we currently have. That’s where Neutrogena’s new Collagen Bank Moisturizer comes in.

The dermatologist-recommended brand created its newest face cream with deeply penetrating ingredients to help protect collagen, keeping our skin looking and feeling its best in the process. The Collagen Bank Moisturizer is available in two versions—one with SPF and one without. I tested both to see how my skin responded. Ahead, find my full review.

About My Skin: Dry with minimal signs of aging

My main skin concerns are dryness and dark circles. Because of this, I tailor my skincare routine to enhance my skin’s moisture and radiance. At almost 25, my face shows minimal signs of aging. I recently had a skin analysis, which pointed out small signals like laxity around my eye contours and tiny spots of sun-induced pigmentation across my face. Overall, my priority is caring for my skin with the right products now so it remains radiant and healthy for years to come.

The Feel: Smooth, velvet-like cream

Both Collagen Bank Moisturizers have the same feel. They are lightweight, creamy, and have some slip to them. Their texture makes them easy to blend into your skin, and they don’t leave a heavy, greasy residue behind post-application. Once the moisturizer absorbs and dries down, you’ll notice a smooth, velvet-like finish on your skin.

Ingredient Quality / Concentration: A deeply-penetrating complex

Both Collagen Bank Moisturizers are formulated with collagen and patented micro-peptide technology. The peptides used are 2x smaller than the leading anti-aging peptides, allowing them to penetrate more than ten surface layers of the skin and support existing collagen. The version with SPF contains several common sunscreen actives—including avobenzone (2.5%), homosalate (6%), octisalate (4.5%), and octocrylene (8%). The version without SPF taps bakuchiol—a plant-based alternative to retinol–as its star ingredient.

The Results: Plump, protected skin

In the morning, I turn to the Collagen Bank SPF Moisturizer as my all-in-one face cream. I apply two pumps to my face and gently massage it into my skin. Sunscreen-infused moisturizers can be hit-or-miss for people of color, but this one passes the test, as it doesn’t leave a white cast behind. It also delivers on its moisturizing claims, as my parched skin always feels thoroughly soothed and comforted once I apply this formula. While I tend to gravitate towards moisturizers that leave me with a dewy, luminous glow, I appreciate that this one subtly enhances my skin’s natural radiance and leaves it feeling velvety soft.

I complete my routine in the evening by applying the regular Collagen Bank Moisturizer. It also melts effortlessly into the skin and drenches my skin in moisture, giving me a plumper and smoother canvas. Since this is a bakuchiol-enriched formula, I also feel comforted knowing that, over time, it can help reduce existing or future dark spots.
