We use the term “your nails but better” to talk about a lot of manicures, but none live up to the definition quite like J.Lo’s latest set. While many low-key colors like Funny Bunny still read as polish on your nails, Lopez’s newest manicure looks so much like her natural nails that her manicurist calls them “mannequin” nails.
The Toronto Film Festival took place over the weekend, and what better time for Lopez to debut a shimmery, disco-esque revenge dress? On September 6, Lopez walked the carpet for the premiere of her upcoming film, Unstoppable wearing a daring cut-out gown encrusted with reflective jewels. Since the dress was the statement of her look, her nails took a chic backseat, thus, the “mannequin” manicure was born.
Crafted by manicurist Tom Bachik, J.Lo’s nails featured a medium almond shape painted with her perfect nude shade that looked like an extension of her skin color. “Tone on tone, we wanted the nails to match the skin,” said Bachik in the Instagram post that documented the look. He used Aprés Burnt Blush, a dusty pink nude, and topped it with a glossy top coat.
The rest of the actor’s glam was understated and pretty, and took a similar approach to her nails. Makeup artist Scott Barnes created J.Lo’s glowy complexion, applying highlighter across her cheeks, nose, and temples. Her metallic smoky eyes matched her dress, and she finished the look with a nude gloss.
When you want your nails done, but can’t decide on a color, J.Lo’s low-key manicure might be the solution. The wash of nude may feel a tad bit boring, but it’s not meant to steal the show. The multi-hyphenate’s nails confirm that the minimalist nail trend isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
