Patrick Ta’s Major Headlines blush is a bonafide beauty classic. The ultra-pigmented cream and powder duo gives a flushed glow that everyone who tries it falls in love with immediately. Hence, why it’s quickly become a TikTok staple—there’s even a shade named “She’s a Doll.” So, it should come as no surprise then that the brand’s first-ever collaboration is quite literally for the dolls, as Patrick Ta Beauty and Barbie have teamed up to bring the dream world to life.
Ahead, everything you need to know about the Patrick Ta x Barbie Blush Duo and Lip Plumper Set, straight from Ta himself.
The Inspiration
Margot Robbie, method dressing, hot pink looks—you couldn’t leave the house without hearing about Barbiecore last year. Hot pink was brought to life in Greta Gerwig’s blockbuster film, which inspired a cultural obsession with the shade. But for Ta, a love of Barbie runs deeper than just a pretty pink color.
“Beauty is what has always brought me the most confidence. It’s what allowed me to find my voice, and I feel like Barbie is such a great example of embracing self-confidence and celebrating who you are, which is what really inspired this collection,” Ta tells Byrdie. “Together we wanted to create a powerful hot pink collection that empowered everyone who applied it.”
“When we were thinking about the shade, it was important that it looked beautiful on all skin tones,” he adds of the collection’s signature hot pink, which decorates the packaging and the products inside. “The vibrant pink blush and gloss are reminders to embrace what makes you unique, something Barbie is so great at and a message that really resonates with me personally. For me, this collaboration is a dream come true. It’s a really big step for Patrick Ta Beauty since this is our very first collab that we’ve ever done…it feels like such a pinch me moment to be teaming up with Barbie.”
The Products
The collab comes as a set, complete with a blush duo and plumping lip gloss. Of course, both products are true to the brand’s beloved formulas, but the limited-edition pair comes in cutesy pink packaging adorned with the iconic Barbie silhouette. The Major Headlines Blush is packed with patented biomimetic pigments which aid in boosting color payoff and making sure the color sits comfortably on the skin. Micronized pigments in the blush help to extend the wear and the créme has a lush emollient base that’s easy to blend and apply.
The Major Volume Plumping Gloss is known for having the perfect balance of hydration and plumping power. Vitamin E and jojoba oil lock in moisture, and peppermint oil provide that minty plumping tingle. The bright hot pink color looks intimidating in the tube, but it’s sheerer than it looks and creates a your-lips-but-better wash of pink with just one swipe.
As for application, Ta has the technique for the perfect Barbie cheek down pat. “I recommend sticking to my blush technique starting by applying the powder and blending it into the under-eye to create a baby doll effect,” he instructs. “This formula is a very pigmented fuchsia pink, so you’ll want to make sure you disperse the product onto the brush first before applying directly to the skin in order to get the pigment payoff that works best with your skin tone. Finish off by applying the She’s a Barbie Doll cream blush on top to melt everything together.”
