This time last year, Vanity Fair was bestowing upon us a sun-kissed Gisele Bündchen cover – which ultimately became one of theFashionSpot’s best magazine covers of the year.
Fast forward a whole twelve months and Vanity Fair‘s April 2024 offering is a vast departure from the sun-drenched beaches of Miami, with us on location within the surroundings of a plush New York townhouse. The magazine’s latest profiles Anne Hathaway as cover star, thirteen years after her last, when the American actress had the honor of gracing Vanity Fair‘s 2011 Hollywood issue. Reuniting with photographer Norman Jean Roy, Anne vamps is up throughout the dark and glamorous cover shoot, complete with styling from Deborah Afshani. The firm favorite of Donatella Versace gazes intensely down NJR’s lens in the commanding cover photograph, wearing a Chanel jacket, gloves and belt, latex bra from Atsuko Kudo and Bulgari jewelry.
Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:
“Mixed feelings about the cover. The composition is good, Anne looks different than she usually appears, but for some reason the editing of the photo doesn’t look very Norman but something more Steven Klein,” voiced DK92 the moment the cover struck.
“I’m not buying her new ‘sexy’ image,” stated blueorchid.
In the same frame of mind was Bertrando3, who shared: “I don’t buy this either. It looks forced and not natural. She’s lovely when she’s doing relaxed glam but the femme fatale vibes don’t suit her!”
Yet not everyone was left so underwhelmed. “It’s a killer cover,” declared Alquimista.
“I love this, purely for how unexpected the styling is. This takes me back to a time when magazines weren’t afraid to give actresses a makeover and I’m all for it. Not the best I’ve seen Anne Hathaway styled or photographed but it’s ALL working,” shared vogue28.
LastNight praised: “Oh this is stunning. Always happy to see Anne on a cover – she’s so beautiful and clearly has fun with it!”
