Vogue Japan is no different to any other edition of Vogue, in being a shadow of its former self having undergone some major and significant changes over recent years. Tiffany Godoy is the current head of editorial content and under her reign, covers of the Japanese fashion bible are either an extreme hit or a massive flop. This month, Godoy has a huge hit on her hands in the form of Vogue Japan’s “fantastic” April 2024 cover, with Anok Yai becoming cover girl in the process. Via the lens of photographer Heji Shin, the Egyptian-born American beauty who is the current face of Prada and Fendi poses in a look from Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Spring 2024 collection for Christian Dior (selected by stylist Patti Wilson) in the ultra-fabulous cover image which gives us major Y2K vibes.
Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:
“Anok Yai shows up and shows out. She makes modeling look like light work. There’s something angelic with a strong hint of command and control about the cover – and I like it,” approved TerraVera.
Sharing the same level of enthusiasm toward the outcome was forum member MON, commenting: “Now this is what a Vogue cover SHOULD look like! Captivating and remarkable! Stunning!”
“This may be my favorite Vogue Japan cover since Anna dello Russo left. Such a commanding cover!” marsnoop2 praised.
Aracic shared the same sentiments, echoing: “Yes, this is definitely their best cover since AdR days. Quite beautiful!”
“LOOVEEE the cover. You can hardly go wrong with Anok!” exclaimed Ihhbl.
“A truly fantastic cover! The strongest Vogue Japan’s had in what feels like forever (but in reality was October 2023 with Mona Tougaard). This gives me major flashbacks to those electric Christian Dior advertising campaigns by Nick Knight, under John Galliano. Lovvvvve this!” raved vogue28.
