Anya Taylor-Joy’s Almond Nails and Chocolate Eyeshadow Are Going Right to Our Spring Mood Board

Have you ever looked at a picture of Anya Taylor-Joy and not been completely entranced? I know she’s a great actress (shoutout The Witch), but even if she wasn’t I’d watch her work just to see whatever her hair and makeup teams are up to. It’s always something good.

On April 25, the 28-year-old showed up at her latest chic-as-can-be social gathering—Tiffany & Co.’s celebration of the launch of Blue Book 2024: Tiffany Céleste at The Beverly Estate in Los Angeles—to show off her latest chic-as-can-be glam. Wearing a structured brown corset gown from Hamda Al Fahim’s Fall/Winter 2024 couture collection, she let her side-parted, crystal-clear blonde hair fall down her back in soft waves. The style was the work of hairstylist Gregory Russell, who always knows exactly how to handle her fine strands.

“I wanted to create an ethereal twist on a classic hairstyle,” shares the artist. “So I opted for a brushed out undulated wave with a deep side parting. A little Jerry Hall, a little pre-Raphaelite.”

Makeup artist Georgie Eisdell took control of Taylor-Joy’s face for the evening. Always a fan of a moody eye, she utilized a dark chocolate-y, mauve-and-umber color palette for a heavy shadow look, adding a bit of shading (and heavy lash) on her bottom waterline to further make her big eyes pop.

“I really just played off the color of the dress. It was a beautiful chocolate so we brought that into the eye makeup,” the artist tells Byrdie. “With the smoky eye we went for a different shape to what I normally would. She has incredible eyes with a lot of room to play so I wanted more of an elongated eye.”

To make this happen, Eisdell “started light” on the inner corners of the eye and got darker as she moved towards the outer corners, extending the shadow toward the temples. A touch of contour emphasized her impressive bone structure, while a brick-brown lipstick tied everything together.

“She really has the most incredible eyes to work with,” adds the makeup artist. “It’s a dream for me.”

Onto her manicure, nail artist Diem Truong perfected a long, glossy, almond-shaped nude design that let Taylor-Joy’s stacks… on stacks on stacks… of Tiffany diamonds remain in the spotlight. The actor has gone funky with her manicures before (earlier in April she wore a grunge “burnt” French design that featured a nude base feathered out to a matte black French tip), but this time the look was as simple as it gets. If it wasn’t for the length, I’d even call it boring. But I know she wouldn’t go that far.

While at the party, the actress canoodled with other diamond-bedecked stars, admired jewelry before eventually sitting down for what I’m sure was a lovely meal. Debuting a new shade of the season on a casual Thursday night out? That’s the Anya Taylor-Joy way.
