In the hustle and bustle of summer and the transition into fall, everyone missed Beyoncé’s new hair change. The multi-hyphenate has been experimenting with different shades of blonde for years, including icy silver for the Renaissance film premiere, but her latest change is so subtle that you could actually blink and miss it.
In June, the Cowboy Carter singer posted iconic photos of her Fourth of July excursion to Instagram, wearing a hair kerchief and an all-white look. Most of her hair was tucked under the kerchief, so it was hard to see her new warm lived-in blonde, which she later posted front and center for her birthday on Instagram. Lucky for us, Rita Hazan, celebrity colorist and founder of Rita Hazan Salon, gave us all the details on Beyoncé’s new, low-key “Teddy Bear” blonde.
For starters, we have to address the name. “Teddy Bear” blonde might be the cutest sounding shade to exist. Hazen explains that the color is “a warm beige just like you would imagine a teddy bear is” but it still has ribbons of blonde. Since the changes are so refined, the transformation isn’t as apparent, especially when you’re just scrolling social media. However, Hazen explains that “this shade of blonde is different from previous versions on Beyoncé because it’s not as light as it has been. The warmth gives it more of a fall vibe, so it works with her fall fashion.”
The goal of the warmer blonde meant was to be low-key, and not totally change her hair. Hazen says “We’re always looking to change up B’s look by creating a new shade without changing her look entirely.”
Although the pretty swirls of caramel and blonde tones might make you want to immediately grab a bottle of bleach, Hazen advises not to try to achieve the color at home. “Make sure for this particular color your professional colorist is experienced with lightning darker hair,” she says.
Of course, upkeep is key to keeping the hair healthy and maintaining the new shade. “To keep the color vibrant, maintain the process every two to three months. In between salon trips, I recommend using treatments and glosses to keep the color vibrant and hair shiny,” recommends Hazel. She opts for her True Color Ultimate Shine Gloss in Breaking Brass “Because darker hair tends to warm up, and incorporating this treatment helps keep the color bright without warming up hues.”
With Beyoncé’s stamp of approval, teddy bear blonde will be everywhere this fall, and it’s the ideal relaxed color change to feel refreshed going into the new season.
