Dae’s Viral Styling Cream Now Comes In a Purse-Friendly Taming Wand

Once I learned how to master the slicked-back bun, I was hooked on the sleek style all over my TikTok. On greasy hair days, when I’m running late, or when I need to feel professional; a ballerina bun just does the trick. The only downside? Gelling down every flyaway hair and ensuring they stay put all day requires a top-tier product. I’ve tried my fair share creams and wax sticks and have been disappointed by that tacky, sticky feeling that’s difficult to wash out, but Dae’s 3-in-1 Cactus Fruit Styling Cream is my favorite product for crafting the perfect bun (it went viral on TikTok for good reason). Now, the brand’s new taming wand makes locking each hair into place even easier.

If you aren’t familiar, Dae is defined by its delicious scents, colorful packaging, and desert-inspired ingredients (the brand is based in Arizona). As you may have guessed, the new Dae Cactus Fruit 3-in-1 Taming Wand is meant to tame and slick every baby hair with ease, combining the original Styling Cream into a portable tube with a fluffy frizz-taming wand. The miniature packaging makes it easy to throw in your purse and take on the go for a summer of slicked back buns.

The Inspiration

In the summer, it really feels like everyone is on the go. Between heading to the office, Euro Summer trips, family vacations, and beach getaways, a lengthy hair and beauty routine inevitably gets cut short. Founder Amber Fillerup Clark got the inspiration to create the miniature cream and wand while traveling in a cab “I grabbed my tube and wished there was a way to make this more practical to use on the go,” she tells Byrdie. “And even better if it could be hands-free!”

In a saturated market, solution-based beauty products make all the difference. “[We] put our best-selling, fan-favorite Cactus Fruit 3-in-1 Styling Cream in a pocket-size tube with a wand so you can touch-up flyaways, or smooth out frizz anywhere,” she said. “I made myself a note and a very initial drawing…and the rest is history!”

In order to create the perfect tool, Clark spent time making sure the wand was “as fluffy as possible, had the perfect glide, didn’t tug or grab your hair, and gave the perfect amount of product.” The Styling Wand went through 12 revisions until the brand found the ideal length and density of bristles. “I love how fluffy, plush, and soft the brush is,” adds Clark. “And it’s so perfect for taming flyaways, shaping edges, and smoothing slick back looks!”

The Product

When I first saw the styling tool, it reminded me of a jumbo-sized mascara wand for the hair. Just like you would glue down your brows with a spoolie and gel, you’d apply the cream to the hair using the wand. The Cactus Fruit Styling cream has a handful of uses on its own—finishing cream, blowout prep, and curl definer—but the wand is meant to tame flyaways and frizz while adding a touch of shine. Standout ingredients include moisturizing dragon fruit, softening prickly pear seed oil, and nourishing meadowfoam seed oil. What’s more, the smaller packaging makes it easy to throw in your purse or gym bag for on-the-go application.

If you haven’t yet smelled any of Dae’s products, or better yet, their 3-in-1 Styling Cream, you’re missing out. The tropical citrus scent has notes of orange blossom and vanilla that last on the hair and the scent itself isn’t headache-inducing, even at the end of the day.

Clark reiterates that the point of the wand is to be convenient, and something you grab for throughout the “dae.” There’s no “right way” to use the Taming Wand, and while it makes sense to use it for smooting flyaways, crafting buns, and smoothing edges, Clark reaches for it even when she’s wearing her hair loose. “Even when my hair is down, I end up reaching for it, when I just need a drop of styling cream to smooth my ends. It’s literally in my bag or my pocket at all times!”

The Reviews

“Before trying this new launch, I was already a fan of the OG Dae Styling Cream formula because it has a fairly strong hold and doesn’t leave my hair crunchy or hard. I love to wear a slicked-back bun but always look for ways to fix stray hairs throughout the day. Up until now, I have been using clear brow gel, which does the trick in a pinch, but this new styling wand is a welcomed upgrade. I love how the bottle is small enough to throw in my bag so I can touch up flyaways on the go. I particularly like using the wand to tuck the short hairs behind my ears and tame stubborn strands near the back of my neck. However, if you have thicker hair that requires a generous amount of product to style, I do not think this wand can replace your full-sized bottle.”

“I’m a firm believer that packaging can make or break a product. For me, Dae’s Cactus Fruit 3-in-1 Taming Wand does just that. The large spoolie applicator applies the OG frizz-taming formula with laser-like precision, leaving silky, slicked-back strands behind. Specifically, I love using it for my side bangs, which can get a bit poofy when humidity is high. Sized just slightly longer than your favorite lippie, this miracle worker won’t be leaving my bag this summer.”

“I love a messy updo a la Pam Anderson, but sometimes it can get a little too messy. I used the Taming Wand to slick down the hair right by my ears for a cleaner look as well as to flatten out any frizzies that had formed on the top of my bun. I don’t usually use products like this, but the fluffy wand made it so easy to apply exactly where I want it, and most importantly, it left no weird crunchy of sticky residue. It’s also worth noting that it smells incredible—like an orange creamsicle—and I’ll be keeping in my purse not only as a frizz-tamer, but an emergency mood-booster, too,”
