As a blonde myself, I can confirm with full honesty that we do, in fact, have more fun. There’s just something about it! Perhaps it’s the blondies who paved the way and gave the shade its fun reputation. After all, It Girl blonde is one of the trendiest hair colors this season, taking cues from Sienna Miller and Blake Lively. And, even though Drew Barrymore already has plenty of fun without a box of hair dye (have you seen the Drew Barrymore Show?), the icon is ready to go back to her roots.
Working with Chris Appleton and Charlotte Tilbury, Barrymore looked like she stepped out of the 2000s when she transformed into her Charlie’s Angels premiere self with long, wavy blonde hair. We can’t emphasize enough how stunning the star looked, and you wouldn’t even guess it was a wig.
Can we get a little commotion for the blonde? Barrymore shared photos of the look on June 5, and made the full reveal on the June 6 episode of her talk show. On the Instagram post revealing the photos, Gwyneth Paltrow commented “Daaaaaang” which took the words right out of our mouths. There’s a lot to unpack, but we’ll start with her hair first.
Appleton took inspiration from the actress’s Charlie’s Angels 2 premiere look where she styled her then signature blonde crimped hair with dark roots. “I love all of Drew’s eras,” Appleton said in the video, “What a fun way to play dress up.” He tied her hair back into knots and applied the wig, styling it in beachy waves that blended darker blonde highlights with super bleached and dark brown pieces.
Tilbury put her spin on the classic ’90s smoky, party-girl eye taking inspiration from Barrymore and Kate Moss. The makeup artist revealed what products she used on her own Instagram, crediting the glittery gray shadow as her Luxury Palette using shades Supernudes and Rock Chick. She blended out the black Exaggereyes Eyeliner on the actor’s lash line to give it a smoky, messy flair. She topped the look off with her Lip Cheat liner in Iconic Nude and paired it with The Super Nudes Lipstick in Runway Royalty and Pillow Talk Plumpgasm in Fair to Medium.
As the ultimate homage to her past self, Barrymore wore her iconic graphic tee that reads “My Boyfriend Is Out Of Town,” which she wore to the premiere alongside co-stars Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu.
“I feel like that girl again!” Barrymore said in the video, to which Tilbury replied “You are that girl.” We would have to agree.
