Anything goes when it comes to trends in the year 2024. Food-inspired shades are still dominating (see: butter yellow, cherry red), and styles from just a decade ago are cool again. So, if we told you boho chic was back, would you even be surprised? In beauty, the trend mostly manifested the popularity of the beachy wave. Leading the boho chic revival on the red carpet is Emma Stone, who styled effortless mermaid waves and a fringy dress for her moment at the Cannes Film Festival.
On May 17, Stone made her debut on the red carpet for her upcoming film Kind of Kindness. The actor’s style doesn’t ever fall into one category, so her red-carpet arrivals are always a surprise. This time, she went full boho-glam with effortless waves as though she’d just returned from the beach.
Her layered hair had shorter pieces that framed her face and her loose waves rested on the tops of her shoulders. Although we don’t think she’s touched her chocolate copper color since the Oscars, in the light, it appeared much more copper-toned.
The rest of her beauty look also took a cue from the ’70s. She wore a pearly, glittery eyeshadow on her lid with a very subtle black liner. She added very little blush, and her highlighted cheeks were more noticeable, as was her hot-pink glossy lip.
To complete her elegant spin on the boho aesthetic, she wore a plunging burgundy gown, courtesy of Louis Vuitton, that was detailed with lots of fringe. Minimal gold accessories added a touch of shine to her look, and her pearly white manicure was also a nice detail.
Okay, Emma Stone might not be the poster child for the boho revival, but if anything, her glam proves the everlasting effect of good ol’ fashioned beachy waves.
