I Reviewed The Jergens Melanin Glow Body Lotion

When it comes to my body care routine, I like to keep things simple: I have a two-step process that has remained unchanged for nearly a decade. But one thing I would love to have more of is a radiant, sunkissed look to my skin. When I learned about the Jergens Melanin Glow Body Lotion, I wanted to give it a try. Made for melanin-rich skin tones and promising to moisturize while leaving skin looking glowy, I wanted to see if this product would also work on my sensitive skin. Keep reading to learn more about my experience with Melanin Glow.

About My Skin: Balanced, but sensitive

Year-round, my sensitive skin is quite balanced, but that is the result of years of trial and error. Previously, I used to experience rashes, hives, itching, and burning when I would use products too strong in fragrance or ingredients that my skin did not agree with. To avoid discomfort, I keep my body care routine streamlined. I use the Dove Sensitive Skin Beauty Bar to cleanse my skin, organic coconut oil to moisturize, and I don’t use any clothing detergents with fragrances. This has been my body care routine for the past several years, and it’s helped keep any flare-ups at bay.

The Feel: Silky, lightweight, and hydrating

The Melanin Glow lotion feels lightweight and hydrating, which I was happy about. When I have used different body lotions in the past, they have felt sticky, thick, and almost seemed like they sat on top of my skin instead of being absorbed. That wasn’t the case with this lotion.

The Ingredients: Nourishing and soothing

Created by a brand known for moisturizing body care products, Melanin Glow fits right in with other products in the Jergens lineup.

This body moisturizer is great for locking in moisture, hydrating, and nourishing the skin. Playing off of these ingredients, the cream has a sweet, coconut scent, while also being cruelty- and paraben-free.

The Packaging: Hygienic and easy to use

With skin and body care, I’m not a big fan of dipping my fingers into a jar of product. I’d much prefer packaging that comes in a tube or has a pump for hygienic reasons. Thankfully, the Melanin Glow moisturizer comes in a recyclable plastic squeeze tube, which I was very happy about.

The Results: Moisturized skin with a glowy finish

I mentioned above that I’m most comfortable using my organic coconut oil to moisturize my skin; it is nourishing and non-irritating, which, after many years of struggling to find a body cream I’d enjoy, I don’t take for granted. When swapping out my current moisturizer for the Melanin Glow lotion, I was cautious, unsure of how my skin would respond. Surprisingly, the cream and my skin worked well together.

The lotion has a lightweight feel to it that I liked. It disappeared into my skin with each application. Soon after applying the cream, my skin looked visibly hydrated and had a very soft, subtle glow to it that didn’t make my skin look grainy or glittery. My skin felt moisturized for hours without feeling or noticing any visibly dry areas on my body.

I was most pleased with not reacting to any of the ingredients in the cream, especially the fragrance. I find the scent to be lovely but overpowering—if there was a fragrance-free option available I would use that version instead. Overall, for someone who has not experimented with a different body care product in several years, I was glad to give the Melanin Glow moisturizer a shot—and even more glad I had such a positive experience.

The Value: Very affordable

Depending on where you find the Melanin Glow moisturizer, it retails between $9 and $13, which I think is a great price for a lotion that moisturizes the skin well and also makes it look radiant.

Final Verdict

An affordable and highly moisturizing body care product, the Jergens Natural Glow Melanin Glow Body Lotion effectively hydrated my sensitive skin. I was left with a soft luminosity that I enjoyed for hours. While the fragrance in the moisturizer was nice, it was a little too strong for me, and I would love to use a fragrance-free option in the future.
