I Tried Dr. Dennis Gross’ New Blurring Cream

If you had told me a year ago that I would kick off fall with an itch for matte, satiny skin, I would have said you’re out of your mind. When it comes to skin, we have been firmly in glazed donut territory since 2021, where the goal is to glow to the high heavens. However, the pendulum always swings back, and lately I’ve been ready to tone down some of the shine for a more sophisticated, soft-matte canvas—”cloud skin,” if you will.

One product that’s helping me get the look? Dr. Dennis Gross’ brand-new DermInfusions Blur + Repair Cream, which drops today, August 20. Despite the cream’s rich texture and deeply hydrating formula, it has a pretty soft matte finish with a blurring effect for a photo-ready look. Ahead, Dr. Gross himself tells us all about the formula, plus my honest review.

The Inspiration

When you hear matte you may think of products that are drying, stripping, or cakey, but Dr. Gross wanted to ensure that that wasn’t the case for his new cream. “Traditionally, many of the blurring products on the market aren’t hydrating enough, and when the skin is too matte, it can exacerbate surface dryness and texture,” he tells Byrdie of the inspiration. “I saw a need for a product that could blur fine lines and imperfections and minimize shine while still keeping the skin hydrated throughout the day. This cream can be used by all skin types for a blurred, more plump, and firmer complexion.”

“It was important to me to make sure our clients didn’t sacrifice moisture and were still able to achieve the satin matte finish they were looking for without feeling or looking dry,” continues Dr. Gross. “So we created a cream that delivers beautiful, hydrated radiance without the shine. If you don’t wear makeup, the finish creates a perfect base on its own, or for the makeup lovers, it can also double as an amazing primer under makeup.”

The Formula

“This ultra-hydrating cream immediately blurs fine lines and pores, smooths and deeply hydrates, while improving skin elasticity for firmer and plumper skin over time,” says Dr. Gross. This plumpness is what gives the skin the blurred, perfected look. “This lightweight formula features a precise combination of clinically proven ingredients. The final result is soft, blurred skin with a satin matte finish.”

 The DermInfusions Blur + Repair Cream has a cushy, rich texture that hydrates skin instantly and over time. It includes four different molecular weights of hyaluronic acid to hydrate skin at various levels to instantly plump. Peptides also help with hydrating, plumping, and blurring, and encapsulated resveratrol helps firm. Ceramides and shea butter lock it all in and help support the skin barrier.

“I love the concept of blurred skin, but I find that many products with blurring claims are too matte on my dry skin. This cream, however, is the perfect happy medium—it has a cushy, yummy, texture that instantly hydrates and soothes, but isn’t shiny or greasy. That being said, my skin doesn’t look lifeless or flat, it just has a pretty satin finish that looks and feels well-hydrated. I’ve been using it for about a month, and my skin looks over all more plump and bouncy, and it’s been a great base for my foundation in the sweaty summer heat. I’m a fan!”
