I Tried Sol de Janeiro’s New Cheirosa 76 Body Mist

Part of the fun of fragrance is how deeply certain scents are tied to specific memories, eras, or relationships and how easily you can conjure up those sights, sounds, and feelings with just a whiff. You can revisit your childhood, a high school dance, a summer fling, or a beloved family member simply by smelling a specific scent, which is as close to magic as we’ll ever get, IMHO. 

Sol de Janeiro is all about those evocative scent moments, whether it’s with their fan fave Brazilian Bum Bum Cream or their line of viral Perfume Mists. But instead of a day at the beach, the brand’s new Cheirosa 76 Perfume Mist is meant to transport you to a Brazilian disco dancefloor in 1976. Ahead, everything you need to know about the brand’s latest launch, plus my honest reiew.

The Fragrance

Cheirosa 76 is a lush, velvety blend of blackcurrant, midnight jasmine, and freesia over an amber wood heart, so it’s a bolder, more forthrightly alluring scent than its siblings, Sol de Janeiro’s beloved, bestselling beachy florals and candy-sweet gourmands. However, it still feels like an organic part of that lineup; you’ve got your Cheirosa 87 for day and then, when night falls, you spritz on Cheirosa 76, put on your LBD, and head out, leaving a trail of warm, enveloping glamour in your wake.

My Review

I don’t necessarily get ‘70s from Cheirosa 76, but I do get 2006—and not in a bad way! During that time, “fruitchoulis” and fruity gourmands were everywhere. This made sense, given it was the glitz and glam mid-aughts, the era of Britney’s Blackout, Perez Hilton, True Religion jeans, and pre-smart phone club nights. Popular fragrances of that era, like Britney’s Fantasy and Calvin Klein’s Euphoria, were sexy but still sweet, with an edge.

Cheirosa 76’s mix of juicy blackcurrant and amber would have fit right in with Lauren Conrad at Les Deux. Unlike Fantasy with its cupcake accord, Cheirosa 76 isn’t a gourmand per se, but if you vibe with sweet or luscious, almost lickable, sink-your-teeth-into-it scents, you’ll enjoy wearing this scent for a night out. 

Because it’s a mist and not a more concentrated eau de toilette or eau de parfum, Cheirosa 76 won’t last forever. It lingered for about two hours on my skin, so I’d recommend tossing it in your bag for touch-ups before you hit the dancefloor or the prime table at the coolest new restaurant. (It’s also great as a hair mist!) To make the scent last longer, layer it with a perfume oil like amber or patchouli or try pairing it with your fave Sol de Janeiro body cream, and watch the compliments come rolling in.
