Jenna Ortega’s Merlot Manicure Is Ready for Fall

I hate to break it to you, but fall is quickly approaching. Pumpkin-spiced everything is about to hit the shelves, jackets will soon be required, and spooky movies like Jenna Ortega’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice are hitting the theaters ahead of the season. Speaking of, the 21-year-old arrived at the Mexico premiere of the film wearing the trendiest end-of-summer manicure.

On August 13, Ortega and the cast of the new Tim Burton film posed for photos on the red carpet ahead of the film’s release. ICYMI, the movie reprises the original 1988 Beetlejuice with Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder playing their roles again, and Ortega as Ryder’s daughter, Astrid Deetz. For the occasion, the You actress wore a strapless Vivienne Westwood dress and a chic updo paired with a merlot manicure.

Classic red nails have been the manicure to beat this summer, as proven by muses like Selena Gomez and Bella Hadid. The go-to hue always looks polished and allows room to infuse some personal flair. Ortega put her spin on the simple yet effective shade by opting for a deeper merlot tone on short stiletto-shaped nails. The hue had a glossy sheen which looked especially chic and elevated. It’s a no-brainer that deeper red tones like Ortega’s merlot manicure will be everywhere come fall.

The actress worked with makeup artist Mélanie Inglessis on her moody, understated glam that included a radiant foundation, mauve-toned lipgloss, and sleek black eyeliner. The nails were a much-needed pop of color in her otherwise neutral, pared-back look, which she completed with a sporty elegant ponytail. Hairstylist Bobby Eliot swept her hair back into the style and left her front bangs loose, gracing her eyebrows and framing her temples.

Her archival Vivienne Westwood dress hails from the brand’s 2009 collection, featuring patent leather appliques with bold white stitching, which was giving very much Beetlejuicecore. As awards season approaches, we’re looking forward to seeing more fun looks from Ortega. Until then, we’ll be copying her wine-inspired manicure through the dog days of summer.
