Joey King Debuted “Playboy Blonde” Hair for Summer

Joey King is having a hair moment. Last month, she became an overnight muse thanks to her Prada bob—the chic micro-cut she debuted at the Cannes Film Festival was flippy and sophisticated in the best way. Yesterday, at the Vogue World event during Paris Fashion Week, she debuted a new color and style that takes inspiration from the ’90s.

With a new season comes new hair transformations, and for summer, everyone is opting for two major changes: It Girl Blonde hair or a bob. Whether styled together or separately, they’re undoubtedly the trendiest hairstyles of late, and we’d wager it’s because they capture summer’s carefree vibe so well. King’s take on the trend was described by her stylist as “Playboy blonde,” and the color features dark brown roots that blend into a ultra-bright bleached blonde hue.

Worn voluminously parted to the side, King’s cool blonde hair rested on her shoulders. Just the 24-year-old’s roots were a dark brown color, the rest of her hair was a silvery blonde shade. Dark roots and bleached blonde hair are reminiscent of the early aughts, hence the name, which came courtesy of hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos. To achieve the look he used products from Moroccan Oil, including the Moroccanoil Treatment Purple Hair Oil for Blonde Hair. Similar to her bob, Joey’s style felt equal parts youthful and put-together—it’s giving business casual by day and party girl by night.

For the Vogue World event, King wore a Givenchy gown that felt Fembot-esque with fluffy bunny tail accents tiered down her white dress. She paired her dress with white tights and matching pumps, accessorizing with jewelry from DeBeers and a metallic clutch.

Polly Osmond was the artist behind her makeup, and crafted a glowy, bronzed complexion and ’60s-inspired Twiggy lashes. King’s fluttery black lashes were the main focus, and she paired them with a pink satin lip look.

From Rihanna’s chunky highlights to King’s Playboy blonde, it’s clear that the Y2K influence has made its way back to inspiring hair trends. Considering crimped waves, hair kerchiefs, and Millennial side bangs are everywhere this summer, it’s clear that the 2000s has a strong hold on 2024 hair.
