Kerry Washington’s sophisticated and fun take on style is why we constantly look to her for inspiration. But where do A-listers like her go for a burst of creativity? Is it Pinterest? Stylists? According to her newest look, we may have an answer.
On May 22, the How To Get Away With Murder alum posted a slideshow of photos to her Instagram in a pretty white dress and a manicure just as good. Her preppy sundress felt apt for the summer weather, but the caption of the photo revealed her outfit was inspired by none other than Taylor Swift, her new album to be exact. “Hey Siri. Please play Taylor Swift’s ‘but daddy i love him,'” she wrote in the caption.
For those unfamiliar, Swift’s latest album took on a black and white aesthetic, and the Schiaparelli dress she wore to the Grammys moths before the release gave fans a sneak peek. Washington’s white dress feels on point with the album’s theme, but more so does her glittery gold French manicure.
There’s a lot to unpack. For starters, Washington’s nails aren’t a first—she wore the same luxurious gold French manicure last winter. Yet, the style feels evergreen and especially fun for the warmer weather. Her almond-shaped nails had a true pink French base and a coat of gold glitter was used to paint the tips of her nails. We all know Swift loves a glittery look—considering the caption and Washington’s low-key glam nails, we’d wager it was a TTPD-inspired look. Kim Truong, nail artist to manicure icons like Rihanna and Anya-Taylor Joy, was credited for the look.
Her outfit, nails, and garden backdrop for the photos felt very much TTPD-meets-fairycore. The 47-year-old looked stunning in the voluminous dress which had a peplum skirt with lots of texture and a corset bodice, courtesy of Christopher John Rodgers collection 013. She held a metallic Brandon Blackwood clutch and completed the look with satin brown Jimmy Choo shoes. Her look was fit for a fabulous tea party.
Highlighted cheeks and iridescent eyeshadow gave Washington’s complexion an ethereal glow. Her contrasting brown liner and glossy pink lip were also a pretty touch. She tied her back in a slicked-back low bun with a middle part as the final touch to her fairy princess beauty.
In a creative slump? Take Washington’s look as proof that your favorite album could be the dose of inspiration your outfit needs.
