Miley Cyrus’ Chunky Highlights and Bangs Are So 2009 Coded

Last night, Miley Cyrus was finally crowned a Disney Legend—the youngest ever, in fact—and you could hear the cheers of 2000s girls everywhere. It’s nearly impossible to sum up the 31-year-old’s influence on pop stardom, but for us, it all comes back to her titular role in Hannah Montana. For the awards ceremony, she opted to accept in her new signature glam: chunky highlights and swishy curtain bangs, the perfect homage to her character’s quirky style.

“I’m definitely going to cry,” Cyrus said before starting her speech. For the ceremony, which took place in Southern California, the “Flowers” singer wore a polished suit set from Alexander Mcqueen and easygoing soft glam that she paired with her new go-to hairstyle.

ICYMI: Cyrus debuted chunky blonde highlights and swishy fringe bangs earlier this summer on Instagram, which looked very similar to the glam of her Disney days. Before that, the singer’s signature was big, ’70s-inspired hair that she wore to the Grammys and throughout her Endless Summer era. Now, it seems as though Cyrus is keeping her 2000s skunk hair, but with a pared-back, mature twist. She wore her golden highlights in a flippy layered blowout, styling her bangs swept to the side and gracing her temples. It was giving Hannah Montana, all grown up—cue the tears.

As for glam, Cyrus’s complexion was glowy and fresh with no-makeup-makeup consisting of a touch of mascara, lipgloss, and a radiant foundation.

“There was a buzz in that Burbank Disney office, where it’s rumored they create all of us Disney kids,” she joked while accepting her award. “I definitely wasn’t created in a lab and if I was, there must have been a bug in the system which caused me to malfunction somewhere between the years of 2013 and 2016. Sorry Mickey!”
