One/Size Just Launched a Weightless “Full Beat” Foundation

There’s a reason they call it foundation: the product creates the perfect base for the rest of your makeup. However, in a world dominated by skin tints, tinted moisturizers, and light-coverage formulas, full-coverage foundations have been tossed to the wayside in favor of barely-there formulas. Until now, that is. Patrick Starr’s One Size Beauty is bringing the full beat back with its Turn Up The Base Full Beat Liquid Foundation. This foundation promises full-on coverage, intense staying power, and pairs best with a a night out and a statement smoky eye. Ahead, we have all the exclusive details on the new launch, and team Byrdie’s honest reviews.

The Inspiration

Full-coverage liquid foundations have a bad reputation. For me at least, they call to mind 2018 “Instagram face” and heavy, matte formulas. Fast forward to now, and there’s a hesitancy around wearing a full-coverage foundation and looking cakey or the formula feeling heavy on the skin. But, the Full Beat Liquid Foundation brings a new perspective to full glam beauty. It’s oil-free, non-comedogenic, and dermatologist-tested. What’s more, the formula is meant to hug the skin comfortably all day without clogging pores, and comes in 38 shades.

The Formula

The Turn Up The Base Full Beat Liquid Foundation is a “thixotropic” formula, meaning it has a cream-to-fluid formula—by shaking the product before use (the brand recommends giving the foundation a vigorous shake before applying) it transforms from a thick cream to a lighter, easy-to-blend consistency, so you have coverage without the cake.

Ingredient call-outs include lauryl lysine, an amino-acid powder that prevents the foundation from separating throughout the day. Instead of using silicone to create a blurring effect, it’s packed with an alkane complex which is a 100% plant-derived smoothing emollient. Finally, rice silk powder adds a blurring and smoothing effect.

Of course, the foundation pairs well with the brand’s viral Secure The Sweat and Oil Sucker Primers. It’s also launching a new Turn Up The Base Infinity Sponge with an oloid shape for ergonomic use. The brand advises using the sponge dry to pack on the coverage, whereas a damp sponge will create a lighter base.

“I typically opt for very light complexion products, such as tinted moisturizers or serum-like textures. So, testing this product was definitely more full glam than my usual routine. Even though this foundation delivers full coverage, it felt weightless on my skin. My only issue was trying to find the right shade. I ended up having to mix two together, but I liked the way it blended out on my face and stayed put throughout the day.”

“Good news, full beat girlies: Tints and buildable formulas might be trending, but you have not been forgotten. One/Size’s latest offering is decidedly, unabashedly full coverage. It’s lighter weight than most of the comparable foundations I’ve tried, and you get full coverage with just a few drops. On me and my combo skin I’d say it’s more matte matte than soft matte, and I’ll likely reach for this one for days I’ll be photographed— it looks great in pics!”

“I’m a little scared of full-coverage foundation, but I’m so glad I gave this a try. as the way this looks on the skin is so pretty. It sits somewhere between medium and full coverage, covering most of my acne and redness but letting my skin shine through. It has a very modern matte finish, airbrushed and blurred but still a little luminous, and photographs beautifully. It doesn’t feel heavy or cakey, and I’ll definitely be reaching for this one all fall.”
