Reese Witherspoon’s Elegant Emmys Bun Was Inspired by Grace Kelly

Do blondes really have more fun? If you were to ask Reese Witherspoon’s hair stylist, the answer would be a resounding yes. The Legally Blonde star’s signature hair look might be her layered, long tresses, but she’s dabbled in all sorts of hairstyles, from sassy side bangs to a slicked-back wet look (or, my personal favorite: her Kris Jenner-esque choppy bob in Sweet Home Alabama). For tonight’s 2024 Emmy Awards, though, Witherspoon switched out her signature red carpet glam for a casually elegant bun. 

Witherspoon’s ballerina-esque bun was the perfect way to add subtle sophistication to her gown, a black strapless Dior number adorned with tiny pearls and floral appliqués. She complemented the gown with a white and yellow diamond necklace with matching earrings and rings.

Taken altogether, Witherspoon’s red carpet look is giving understated Grace Kelly elegance. According to her hairstylist, Lona Vigi, that was precisely the point of her hairstyle. “This ‘Grace Kelly’ sleek and sophisticated bun was inspired by the latest runway trends and is the perfect blend of classic elegance and contemporary style,” said Vigi. “I wanted Reese to feel beautiful, confident & comfortable!”

To get the look, Vigi applied the FEKKAI Full Blown Volume Dry Texturizing Spray to the roots, following it up with a blow-dry for added volume. She created a deep side part, and then sprayed Witherspoon’s hair with the FEKKAI Clean Stylers Sheer Dry Shampoo. After backcombing the crown area and gathering it into a ponytail, Vigi worked in the FEKKAI Brilliant Glossing Styling Créme and twisted the ponytail into a bun, securing it with pins. She finished it off with the FEKKAI Clean Stylers Flexi-Hold Hairspray to give the look a firm yet flexible red carpet hold.

For glam, Witherspoon went for a fail-safe makeup combo: rosy cheeks, a subtle smokey eye, and a glossy pink lip. As per usual, Reese Witherspoon is giving us effortless elegance on the red carpet. What, like it’s hard?
