Whatever Rihanna steps out in will inevitably be cool, but it usually doesn’t follow the traditional trend cycle. So, hypothetically, if the ANTI singer wore the butter yellow trend three weeks into September, then we would declare that the summery pale yellow shade is, in fact, staying relevant for fall. And yesterday, she did just that.
Even with the buzz of the Emmys and international fashion weeks, a Rihanna street style look has the ability to cut through the noise. The beauty founder hosted an event for Fenty Hair in London on September 16, and arrived in a custom butter yellow Jacquemus dress with a matching lemon manicure, reviving the color trend for fall.
The butter nail trend really took off over the summer, with the color appearing on muses like Kendall Jenner, Selena Gomez, and Jennifer Lopez. Rihanna’s take on the trend was simple but elevated, in true RiRi fashion. Her short coffin-shaped nails were painted with the quintessential butter yellow shade and topped with a barely-there coat of shimmer. If you look closely in the photos, the nails have a touch of chrome which gives it a pearly reflective shine (it looked like her lemon nails were topped with a sprinkle of sugar.)
Fresh from Jacquemus’s Fall / Winter 2024 collection, Rihanna matched her manicure with a custom pale yellow coat dress from the brand that melted off her shoulders. The feather-adorned dress had the silhouette of a comfy robe coat which she paired with a gold pair of pumps and no accessories.
For glam, she wore her hair parted to the side in loose, shiny curls, similar to the style she debuted at New York Fashion Week. She kept her signature go-tos, like fluttery lashes and a touch of glittery eyeshadow, and topped the look off with red lipgloss.
Our manicure muse has spoken, and we’re guaranteed three more weeks of summer nails.
