By now, we’re well accustom to various editions of Vogue sharing content. The latest fashion shoot to be shared across multiple editions of the Condé Nast fashion bible is Selena Gomez x Michael Bailey Gates. Vogue Mexico first secured the shoot for their January 2024 installment and now Vogue Japan is rehashing the exact same story for February 2024. At Japanese Vogue, however, the magazine’s head of editorial content Tiffany Godoy opted for an entirely different cover photograph. On this occasion, Selena is captured via Gates’ lens in black and white, and sits perched on the photographer’s studio floor while dressed by stylist Clare Byrne in a black Prada coat from the brand’s Spring 2024 collection.
Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:
“It’s not bad,” confessed oaklee91 the second the cover came to light.
“Much better than the Mexican edition,” Xone instantly approved.
In the same frame of mind was vogue28, adding: “I’m able to admire and appreciate this, a thousand times more than Selena’s Vogue Mexico cover. This is far more simple, more chic and far more easy on the eye. Also love how she’s wearing the Prada coat, as well as the black and white photography teamed with the orange Vogue Japan masthead. A nicely done cover, IMO.”
Not everyone, however, was so forthcoming. “The cover image choice is much better than the one from the Mexican edition but it’s still weak,” voiced avonlea002.
“Why show the parts of the studio set? Very annoying,” pointed out a disgruntled Kimy Jo.
“What’s the thought process that goes into choosing someone like Selena Gomez for multiple Vogue covers? Yikes,” exclaimed an unforgiving blueorchid.
