At this point, there might as well be a Selena Gomez manicure coffee table book. From the shapes to the colors and the finishes, the 31-year-old is always changing things up.
Most recently, the “Love On” singer decided to take a step way back from intricate designs and color matching to focus on simplicity. Her latest manicure could be categorized as… not even a manicure at all! With only the slightest sheen and some professional shaping, these nails are completely au naturale. Forget the French part of a “naked” French manicure; they’re just naked.
Gomez wore the look to speak at the TIME100 Summit on Wednesday, April 24 in New York City. I have to guess her regular manicurist Tom Bachik was behind the style, as he shared a sweet Instagram Story with animated hearts promoting the day’s event. It’s also possible Gomez did the nails herself—because it’s the all-time easiest manicure, you need only shaping tools, a buffer, and a topcoat to nail the style (I myself love Bare Hands’ Dry Gloss Manicure Kit, $42, for a similar, polish free approach).
Coming straight off of a matching lipstick/jacket moment that she chose for an April 22 Knicks game date with boyfriend Benny Blanco, Gomez left the heavy pigments at home. This time, she opted for pillowy, glossy lips, peachy blush, and a simple sweep of mascara to compliment her fitted black leather Brandon Maxwell maxi dress.
I’ll also note that, upon revisiting her date night look, it appears that the Only Murders in the Building star’s nails were also naked on that occasion. In fact, the last time we saw her in a major manicure was early April, when she wore pearly pink nails to launch Rare Beauty’s Soft Pinch Luminous Powder Blush Collection. And even then, can we call that simple but pretty style major?
Regardless, I’m glad Gomez is giving her famous nails some time to breathe. In my wildest mind, I like to imagine Rare is currently designing a nail polish collection and she simply can’t wear the colors out and risk spoilers. For now, I will be joining forces with the starlet and removing my own polish. (No, not just because they’re chipping like crazy, why would you say that?)
