Sha’Carri Richardson US Vogue August 2024

Anna Wintour has been at the helm of American Vogue for almost four whole decades. Throughout that time, we’ve most definitely encountered personalities from the world of sport as cover stars. Everyone from LeBron James and Ashton Eaton to Naomi Osaka and Simone Biles have become Vogue cover stars during Wintour’s tenure. Serena Williams has graced the American fashion bible four times, and we will never forget the Marion Jones cover from 2001. More recently, Wintour endorsed Coco Gauff and Sha’Carri Richardson is unveiled as Vogue‘s digital cover subject for August 2024. Ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics, the American track and field sprinter poses for photographer Luis Alberto Rodriguez down on the starting line. In the striking cover image, Richardson is styled by Julia Sarr-Jamois in a bodysuit and billowing skirt from Ralph Lauren collection, teamed with a pair of gold Nike sneakers.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“It’s hideous,” immediately called out mepps.

“American Vogue has always struggled to create decent covers with black athletes. Not a flattering shot at all,” said forum member thiago.

“I just want a break from the athletes and obvious Anna Wintour favs. PLEASE!” declared tomtakesphotos.

Also quick to question Vogue‘s latest was KoV. “The cover photo to me looks like it could be on a billboard for Nike or Gatorade or something. It’s a dynamic image, but I don’t think it’s a Vogue cover.”

MModa, however, could not have disagreed more. “I love everything about the cover. Love the colors,” they admired.

Lola701 shared the same positive attitude, commenting: “I like the cover. It works for a digital cover and it goes well with the Olympics. The composition is really the strength of the cover.”
