We Tried Too Faced’s New Lip Injections Lip Blush Gloss

I love the idea of a tattoo but hate the required commitment—the idea of something on my body forever is just not for me. Coincidentally, this perspective is what fueled Too Faced’s newest lip product. The brand known for its cheeky makeup (you’ve probably bought a Better Than Sex Mascara before) is back with a new limited-edition launch that mimics the look “lip blushing,” AKA a lip tattoo. Launching August 8, Too Faced Lip Injections Lip Blush fuses pH technology with the brand’s signature lip plumper for a faux-lip blush effect that doesn’t require going under the needle.

The new Lip Injections Lip Blush is a part of the brand’s Fantasy Factory collection, a program that launched earlier this year featuring limited-edition product drops. The goal? To experiment with new formulas based on beauty trends and viral buzz. Their first drop, Disco Crush, a shade-shifting shimmer for eyes and face, was an immediate hit. Lip Blush Lip Injections is the second launch to come out of Fantasy Factory, and its limited-edition moniker means it’ll likely go fast.

If you’re looking to add to cart before it sells out, read on for everything you need to know, straight from the brand’s Executive Director of Global Beauty, Elyse Reneau. Plus, team Byrdie’s honest reviews.

The Inspiration

Quick refresher: To say the Lip Injection Lip Gloss was ahead of its time is an understatement. The gloss foresaw the modern desire for a fuller pout, often achieved by a lip flip or filler. One swipe of the gloss offers a similar effect without the injection (hence the name). Its staying power as one of the best lip plumpers on the market after two decades speaks for itself.

The new Lip Injection Lip Blush puts a Gen-Z twist on the classic—it uses buzzy pH technology to create a custom pink color that varies from person to person. It comes as no surprise that the new product was dreamed up by a new viral procedure: Lip blushing, which semi-permanently tints lips a custom shade of pink.

“We have all been loving the lip blushing trend on TikTok where a tattoo artist will tattoo the lips to look like a soft pink ombre effect,” said Reneau. “The results can be gorgeous, but the process is definitely intimidating, so we set about to create a Lip Injection Lip Gloss that has the same effect. The results are super plump lips that bloom to the most beautiful shade of pink.”

Too Faced

Too Faced kept the brand’s signature formula, so OG Lip Injection fans can expect similar results. “It is the same base formula as the original but we added pH technology to give you a custom pink that’s individual to your own body chemistry,” she told Byrdie. “It varies from soft pink to bright Barbie pink depending on the individual and it smells like candy.”

The Formula

The Lip Injections Lip Blush is anchored by everything that made the original lip plumper great. It keeps ingredients like nourishing vitamin E and avocado oil for plush (and plump) hydrated lips. It’s nourishing and extra-glossy, and on application, creates a custom pink shade that, you guessed it, blushes the lips. If you want to add extra fullness to your pout, it’s the perfect one-and-done lip product—line your lips with a favorite lip liner, and you’re ready to go.

The Reviews

“As someone with naturally full lips, I don’t typically don’t reach for lip-plumping products. I decided to give Too Faced Lip Injection Lip Blush a try to see if the hype was real. I did notice a slight difference in the look and feel of my lips but not so much with the color pay off, it just looks like a clear gloss to me. If you’re looking to give your pout an extra boost I’d say this product is worth a try, especially for special occasions.”

“I’ve seen countless before-and-after lip blush transformations, so trust me when I say that this looks—and kind of feels—like the real deal. On top of its classic plumping effects, I was thoroughly impressed by the pH-activated shade—it produces a deliciously juicy pink hue on the lips for that summery watermelon popsicle vibe. For those with more sensitive lips, though, keep in mind that this product has a somewhat intense tingling sensation.”

“Though it’s a bit gimmicky, I can’t resist a pH activated product—I love a sheer pink tint and the ‘magic’ makes me feel like a little kid again. This product is no different, and leaves behind the prettiest ‘bitten’ pink shade that can be build up to a bright pink. There’s a nice glossy shine, but I prefer to dab it off for more of a stained effect. It definitely gave me some good volume, but you’ll have to deal with some tingling to get it—nothing compared to actual lip injections, of course. That said I think it’s worth it, and I’ll be keeping it in my purse for the rest of summer.”
